Welcome to the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology at Middle East Technical University.
Our department was established at a time when computers were just beginning to enter schools. Since then, digital technologies have transformed how people access information, communicate, and learn. Today, learning takes place not only in classrooms but also in online platforms, mobile devices, simulations, and interactive environments. Understanding and designing meaningful learning experiences has therefore become more important than ever.
At CEIT, our focus is not simply teaching the use of technology. We study how people learn, how technology influences learning processes, and how effective learning environments can be designed and evaluated. Our students gain both pedagogical insight and technological competence, and learn to approach educational challenges in a systematic and thoughtful way.
Our faculty members conduct research in instructional design, learning technologies, distance education, digital literacy, games and simulations, human–computer interaction, mobile learning, artificial intelligence, and immersive technologies such as virtual, augmented, and extended reality (VR, AR, XR). Through research projects and collaborations, we aim to improve educational practice while contributing to the broader academic community.
We are proud of our graduates who work as teachers, instructional designers, researchers, and educational technology specialists in schools, universities, and industry. Their work demonstrates that educational technology is not merely about tools, but about improving learning opportunities and supporting individuals’ development.
