In accordance with the University Senate decision dated February 5, 2026, and numbered 2026/2-1, effective as of the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 Academic Year, students are required to fulfill the minimum publication requirement in order to be eligible to enter the PhD thesis defense. This regulation applies to students who have not yet passed the doctoral qualifying stage. Students who have reached the thesis defense stage but have not yet fulfilled the publication requirement may be granted a leave of absence (registration freeze) in order to meet this requirement. This leave may be granted by the relevant Institute Executive Board, one semester at a time, for a maximum of four semesters.
