According to Article 25 of the University's regulations on graduate studies, it is required to achieve a minimum grade of CC in credit courses for master's programs, and at least CB for doctoral programs, in order to successfully complete the courses.
Important Reminder for Thesis Supervisor Assignment
In the Fall semester, to avoid potential registration issues in the future, you should determine your thesis supervisor, which is an important matter.
- If you are an MSc student starting your 2nd semester in the Fall or
- If you are a Ph.D. student starting your 3rd semester,
- then you MUST determine your thesis supervisor ASAP (if you haven't yet).
- You will need to add the graduate courses of your thesis supervisor to be able to successfully register for the fall semester.
It is crucial for you to be familiar with the curriculum, registration rules, and our university's graduate education regulations for the program you are enrolled in. Non-compliance with these rules and regulations can lead to irreversible problems. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the following matters during the registration process:
- Register for the Fall Semester. Ensure that your registration is approved by your advisor. Registrations without advisor approval are invalid.
- Late registration will not be allowed (except for those with a medical report covering the registration period between September 27 and 30, submitted to the Institute and approved by the METU Health Center).
- Students who remain unregistered due to an issue in METU SIS must submit a wet-signed document explaining the problem, obtained from the Information Processing Department, to the Institute.
- Master's and doctoral students are required to complete all credit and non-credit courses in four semesters (courses with codes 500, 600, 800, and 900 are excluded from this requirement; these courses continue until graduation). Check whether you have any missing courses based on the semester count and curriculum.
- If you are a master's student, make sure to add courses with codes 500 and 800, and if you are a doctoral student, add courses with codes 600 and 900 with the correct course and section numbers.
- If there are courses that require "replacement," it is mandatory to do so during the registration.
- You must complete the mandatory courses of your program. Exemptions cannot be granted from mandatory courses.
- Students whose course-taking period (first four semesters) has ended can only take courses in the NI status.
- Please pay attention to the categories of the courses you have taken. According to the curriculum of your department, it is essential to take mandatory and elective courses in the correct categories. Taking courses in the wrong category, especially mistakenly in the NI category, can lead to significant issues during graduation. Please remember that the category of a course with an assigned letter grade cannot be changed.
- Ensure that you have taken the "Research Ethics and Methodology" course once during your master's and doctoral education and the number of seminar courses specified in the curriculum of your department.
- Remember that to be eligible for doctoral qualification exams, you must have completed the course load, and after the course-taking period has ended, you cannot take any more courses (except for courses taken in the NI status, determined by the doctoral committee).
- If you have conditionally passed the DYS exam, you must take the courses specified as conditions and pass them with at least a BB grade. Pay attention to the conditions set during registration.
- If you have been admitted to the program conditionally or with scientific preparation, you must take your courses in accordance with the specified conditions. Failure to meet the conditions will result in the termination of your relationship with the university
